4 Ways of Dealing with Entitled People

“A sense of entitlement is a cancerous thought process that is void of gratitude and can be deadly in our relationships.” – Dr. Steve Maraboli.

Some people wear entitlement like they own the world — they’re harsh, demanding and resentful, especially when they don’t get things they way they wanted it to be. But sometimes, you would not notice it, it’s subtle. That you will end up feeling, you are being manipulated.

Being friends, colleagues and associates with entitled individuals is a challenge because a relationship is supposedly equal, but it’s not for them. They will always feel superior and above you and will always prioritizes his agenda over others. How can the folly be stopped? Try the following 4 tips:

Tip number 1: Use wish fulfillment to set clear limits

An entitled individual will hold all sorts of expectations — he expect you to be readily available to babysit anytime he will ask, a grown child expect to inherit enough that he need not to save a dime, or a customer expect to not line up in a fastfood chain or bank because of his profession.

One great way of making it clear that you can’t or won’t fulfill the expectation, without blaming or criticism is through wish fulfillment. It sounds like this:  “I wish I could babysit and help you out, but I have an appointment today. Next time give me a few days notice and I’ll see if I can help.” Or, “I wish I could work you in the schedule today, but everyone is booked solid. What about tomorrow?”

In short, say you want to fulfill his request and then politely make it clear that you can’t. Sometimes just recognition that you have heard and ostensibly agreed with the entitled person’s demand is sufficient to alleviate their fragile ego.

Tip number 2: Treat everyone equally

Don’t bend any rules and or make any exemptions for an entitled individual if you can’t do the same for everyone. Making exemptions will just feed into the mind of an entitled person that he is special and superior, above everyone else. Plus it has an effect to the rest of the group, making them feel resentful. Everyone will feel secure and safe if you will run a tight and egalitarian ship.

Tip number 3: Feel a bit sorry for them

Yes, individuals who are entitled can boil your blood. But there’s a raging feeling of insufficiency underneath everything. However they may look outside, it is always helpful to think their lives and relationships are pretty miserable.

Tip number 4: Remember you can only do so much

No mater what and how, you can never change an entitled individual, but only themselves. You can try to help and protect, but always steer clear by setting limits, being egalitarian and feeling compassion.

To wrap this all up, there’s a popular saying that goes  “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.”

Do These 5 Things to (Actually) Stick to Your Goals

You made New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of the year to stop smoking, lose weight, exercise more, think positively? And then remember how easy it was about six days later to slide back into old patterns?

Why are your goals so hard to stick to? Because there’s a big change. It’s frightening.

But with the same resolution you don’t want to hit next January. What a boring thing. How tedious it was. How the year before!

So what are you going to do? For a start, place one foot in front of the other. You got ta lose weight? Go to the fitness center. Must you think positively? Give each day a mirror mantra. You have to stop smoking? Buy a nicotine gum for yourself.

Change begins in a small way. I’m not expecting you to be free of smoke by tomorrow’s end. Nor do I think Thursday you’re going to drop those stubborn 10 pounds. It took me a long time to lose the 50 pounds that I’ve been carrying for years. What I expect you to accomplish your goals every day— whatever they may be.

Here are a few small steps to help you achieve your dose of change every day — to actually meet your goals:

1. Devote your change for at least 15 minutes a day.

Even if it’s just a walk around your neighborhood, do it, read an inspiring article, one less cigarette. Also mix it up. No one wants some tedious workout regime to be stuck. It makes it look so much more miserable, isn’t it? So pick up the paddle ball set, tennis rackets or the Frisbee and go and spend time with your family or friends.

2. Fork over the truth.

Until I decided to be honest about why I was reaching for chips rather than taking healthy risks with myself, I thought it was all about food. In reality, for stuffing food down my face, I got a huge payoff — I got to play it safe. What’s your non-changeable payoff? You will never be able to stick to your plan until you can become real. Modification of behavior teaches us to repeat behaviors that make us feel good. What that means to you is that until the goal gets bigger than the payoff, you will always choose to feel good about feeling uncomfortable.

3. Set realistic goals.

Instead of focusing on losing 20 pounds in 20 days, my goal was just to start eating 5 fruits and vegetables a day. I really believe that good choices lead to better choices (alas, it works the other way too!), and my goal was simply to honor the five-day plan. I didn’t expect a miracle or a transformation of my body overnight. Rather, before adding anything else to my plate, I spent months developing this new behavior pattern; in other words, one behavior at a time.

4. Never eliminate. Replace.

I want to popcorn when I go to the movies. My husband selects only the heavily buttered and salted kind, so I sneak in my Jolly Time 94 percent Fat Free buttered popcorn (hey, I would buy it if they sold it!). If I just tried to eliminate eating popcorn in the movies while munching with sheer delight next to me, I would probably find my hand covered with grease before the previews had finished. If your goal is to eliminate a specific behavior, if you want permanent change, it must be replaced with a new behavior. If we don’t replace a behavior, we end up creating a large void that leads to obsessive thinking, eventually leading to falling back into old patterns.

5. Find support.

Very few people can get on their own where they’re going. Throughout our change journey, we all need encouragement and support. Perhaps it’s a friend for you to hold you accountable or a group that’s like-minded where they want to go. There is power in numbers, and to our advantage we can use this. Although over the course of a year I had embraced many healthy eating habits, I felt I needed some additional encouragement to continue.

It’s not easy to change. But it’s something you can achieve as long as you don’t seek the quick fix, but are willing to make daily choices that will bring you lasting results. You’re going to have setbacks a few days, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to throw in the towel. It’s just a chance to commit yourself to your goal. Have fun with that!

Building Self-confidence

“Because one believes in oneself, one doesn’t try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn’t need others’ approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.”
― Lao Tzu

For a happy and successful life, self-confidence is essential and is a quality of character that most people value when they see it in others.

Why is so self-confidence significant? It is important because it provides you with courage, self-esteem and assertiveness. You are not afraid to take risks and try new things when self-confidence is present.

You don’t allow what people think and say about you to affect you when you have self-confidence, and you don’t take things too personally. This means a quieter life. Most people aren’t born with this quality of character. You can build it up, though. You can build self-confidence by changing your mindset and attitude to life, even if you have lost it through different personal experiences.

Checklist to help you build self-confidence

Acquire a positive outlook. Instead of focusing on undesirable events and expecting the worse, try to focus on positive results and expect positive results. If your mindset has always been negative, this may not be easy. You can, however, change your mental habits and build a positive attitude with persistence. This website contains plenty of information about positive thinking. If you try to remove all negative words from your mind and vocabulary and refrain from using them in your conversation, it would help.

Set small, simple objectives. Set small, simple goals that you can achieve and achieve. This will greatly increase your trust. I’m talking about really small goals, like inviting friends to your house, organising and arranging your closet, starting to draw, or taking a day off and having fun. These little deeds will make you feel better and increase your self-confidence.

Think of what you’ve accomplished in life. Life brought failure and unhappiness, but there are certain in life and a few achievements. These do not need to be great achievements, but quite simple things, such as getting compliment from work or colleagues, having movie time with partner and getting along well with your neighbors. Reminding yourself about these accomplishments makes you realize that you have been successful in your life and not everything is failure. This would improve your self-confidence and feel better about yourself and your life.

Concentrate on what you have done and achieved, not what you have not done and have not achieved. Why gratify your mind with failure circumstances? If you keep thinking about failure, you expect it and anticipate it and attract it to you, and your sense of self-confidence is further weakened. Replace the negative picture in your mind with a success movie. This process would build your trust in yourself. Vision what you really want to be in your mind and living the life you really want.

Create a list of your successes and achievements. Take another step to build your self-confidence and create a list of your accomplishments and successes and often look at this list. Little did you know that you’ve never had success. You’re wrong about it. You might not have had great success, but you surely had some sort of success, even if only occasionally. Even cooking your family’s favorite food, having good relationships with your spouse or kids, or walking almost every day is a success.

Build a strong will. Easy to follow programs with all the instructions, guidance and exercises you need to increase your willpower, self-discipline and inner strength. Overcome procrastination, eliminate laziness and develop determination.

Emphasize your willpower. The lack of self-confidence is accompanied by lack of willpower. If you strengthen your power of will, your self-confidence will also grow strong. In many articles, I have written much about willpower and suggested exercises to strengthen it. I’ve also written a book on this subject, so there’s no need to go deeper. A stronger willpower means more assertiveness, greater self-esteem and greater trust.

Improve a positive outlook. Instead of focusing on undesirable events and expecting the worse, try to focus on positive results and expect positive results. If your mindset has always been negative, this may not be easy. You can, however, change your mental habits and build a positive attitude with persistence. This website contains plenty of information about positive thinking.

3 Internal Motivations You Need to Achieve Everything You’ve Ever Wanted

3 Types of Internal Motivation to Achieve Everything You’ve Ever Wanted

Have you ever wanted something so bad, but could never achieve it? Many times, it boils down to motivation. So if want to learn how to motivate yourself so you can begin achieving your goals and being a better you, keep on reading.

Internal motivation, or intrinsic motivation, is the driving force behind your thoughts and choices regarding your career, hobbies, relationships, and other activities. It doesn’t concern itself with outside influences or external factors. Instead, internal motivation is centered on your personal desires and needs. If you’re looking for an effective way to stay motivated and create lasting change, then consider changing your focus. Try looking within.
Internal motivation occurs when you act upon your impulses without the need for external rewards, such as money or recognition. These actions are, instead, inspired by happiness, exploration, or knowledge. It could be a hobby, like gardening, or it could be a fulfilling career, such as teaching.
When you pursue an activity for the sheer joy of it, you’re doing so because you’re intrinsically motivated. You engage in the activity simply because you choose to. It means something to you. And that, in itself, can be its own reward.
Below are the 3 different types of internal motivation you can start using today:

1. The Desire to Win

In every competition, whether it is E-sports, The Olympics, Business competition, Sports, or even War, in order to be successful, every contender must exhibit the desire to win. It is this desire to win that must be translated into determination and performance. This determination to win would translate into perseverance and hard work, which is why many players devote time, effort, and even money to achieve such a goal of winning. People often say winning isn’t everything, but when it comes to competition and sportsmanship winning is everything! Without the desire to win to some degree, it’s near impossible for one to achieve the highest “medal” attainable, assuming that the competition is fierce. It is the desire to win, that allows competitors to beat all odds and overcome obstacles despite the temporary defeat. This desire to win often inspires and initiates perseverance through adversity in any competition. This desire to win, the true spirit of competition, is what one needs in any competition.
In a competitive environment, a person’s needs to have the desire to win by being attuned to the competition around them. Being aware of the surrounding competition helps to amplify one’s desire to win! One could say that the fierceness of the competition often directly impacts how much one really wants to win, which could push them to new heights in progression! This awareness of the competition around oneself would allow one to grow their desire of winning and thus allow one to set realistic goals towards the ultimate goal of winning a competition. One must also account for whether or not they want to win in the long-term or short-term. In order for one to win when the competition is fierce, one must exhibit a desire to win greater than that of other competitors. Whoever wants to win the most, WILL win! Willpower is such a strong force when it comes to winning.

The desire to win goes hand-in-hand with willpower. Willpower is the desire to overcome adversity and beat all obstacles. Willpower inspires perseverance and initiates progression in a competitor’s skill which can be emphasized through a competitor’s willingness to go through intense training so that one day he or she may bring home the “gold medal.” And striving to bring home the gold is a physical embodiment of the desire to win. In a fierce and real competition, players play mainly to WIN, not just for amusement. It is by having a strong desire to win that players can use willpower to focus heavily on the main objective of the game and work on constantly perfecting a skill, reaction time, and even mental stamina. The desire to win is a powerful driving force is applied in a healthy and purposeful way, thus driving healthy competition in the process.

“The starting point of all achievement is desire.” – Napoleon Hill

2. Purpose

Motivation itself is not an emotion but it is the purpose of all emotions, meaning that all emotions serve to motivate us to perform some kind of action. All emotions give us energy so that we can act and the willingness to act is motivation.
Behind every action, there is a motive

And behind every motive is a need. Needs are the essential triggers of motivation. Whether it be a physiological need; like the need to have food (hunger) or a social need; like the need to be accepted, a need is what induces motivation in us and drives most of our behavior. You can’t have motivation without a need and you can’t have action without motivation.

We all have needs, no doubt about that, but we all don’t have the same level of motivation to fulfill those needs. Those who do have some amount of motivation may not be motivated enough to take actions to fulfill their needs. These are types of people that usually seek motivation. They’re trying to increase their motivation level so that it reaches a threshold where they’re forced to act.
Unfortunately, many motivation-seekers keep looking for motivation forever without understanding that the sole purpose of motivation is action. Their efforts at increasing their motivation are nullified if they forget the most important part- action.

Then there are others who are highly motivated but don’t just stay that way but rather utilize their motivational energy to take powerful actions. They are the ones who succeed in fulfilling their needs and desires.

3. Mastery

This type of motivation – to become competent in one’s environment – is known as mastery motivation. While mastery motivation is shaped by experience, the desire to become competent and to continue to learn remains an important influence for many individuals.
At its core, Mastery is a simple process accessible to all of us. But before you start down the path, you need to bring two traits to the table: the relentless ability to focus deeply on a subject and a strong desire to learn.
The reason mastery of a specific craft or multiple skills is so important is because once again, it’s never ending. There isn’t a point in your journey where you can completely master something because there’s always another level to reach. With all of the internal motivators especially mastery, it becomes difficult for other people around you to understand why you work so hard. Nonetheless, being motivated this way typically means the person has no real love for what they do because if they did love what they do, the real satisfaction would come from some internal driver like winning, getting better at their craft or working on towards their purpose every single day.

“If you want to learn something, read about it. If you want to understand something, write about it. If you want to master something, teach it.” – Yogi Bhajan

Once you change not only your level of desire but also the kind of desire, you completely change the game of success for yourself because now you’re in a position where you actually want to work hard. You don’t have to feel like working hard or getting up early is a chore and I guarantee once you start to find powerful internal motivators, you’ll be surprised how much and how hard you want to work towards achieving your goals.
