This determination to win would translate into perseverance and hard work, which is why many players devote time, effort, and even money to achieve such a goal of winning. People often say winning isn’t everything, but when it comes to competition and sportsmanship winning is everything! Without the desire to win to some degree, it’s near impossible for one to achieve the highest “medal” attainable, assuming that the competition is fierce. It is the desire to win, that allows competitors to beat all odds and overcome obstacles despite the temporary defeat. This desire to win often inspires and initiates perseverance through adversity in any competition. This desire to win, the true spirit of competition, is what one needs in any competition.
In a competitive environment, a person’s needs to have the desire to win by being attuned to the competition around them. Being aware of the surrounding competition helps to amplify one’s desire to win! One could say that the fierceness of the competition often directly impacts how much one really wants to win, which could push them to new heights in progression! This awareness of the competition around oneself would allow one to grow their desire of winning and thus allow one to set realistic goals towards the ultimate goal of winning a competition. One must also account for whether or not they want to win in the long-term or short-term. In order for one to win when the competition is fierce, one must exhibit a desire to win greater than that of other competitors. Whoever wants to win the most, WILL win! Willpower is such a strong force when it comes to winning.
The desire to win goes hand-in-hand with willpower. Willpower is the desire to overcome adversity and beat all obstacles. Willpower inspires perseverance and initiates progression in a competitor’s skill which can be emphasized through a competitor’s willingness to go through intense training so that one day he or she may bring home the “gold medal.” And striving to bring home the gold is a physical embodiment of the desire to win. In a fierce and real competition, players play mainly to WIN, not just for amusement. It is by having a strong desire to win that players can use willpower to focus heavily on the main objective of the game and work on constantly perfecting a skill, reaction time, and even mental stamina. The desire to win is a powerful driving force is applied in a healthy and purposeful way, thus driving healthy competition in the process.

Motivation itself is not an emotion but it is the purpose of all emotions, meaning that all emotions serve to motivate us to perform some kind of action. All emotions give us energy so that we can act and the willingness to act is motivation.
Behind every action, there is a motive
And behind every motive is a need. Needs are the essential triggers of motivation. Whether it be a physiological need; like the need to have food (hunger) or a social need; like the need to be accepted, a need is what induces motivation in us and drives most of our behavior. You can’t have motivation without a need and you can’t have action without motivation.
We all have needs, no doubt about that, but we all don’t have the same level of motivation to fulfill those needs. Those who do have some amount of motivation may not be motivated enough to take actions to fulfill their needs. These are types of people that usually seek motivation. They’re trying to increase their motivation level so that it reaches a threshold where they’re forced to act.
Unfortunately, many motivation-seekers keep looking for motivation forever without understanding that the sole purpose of motivation is action. Their efforts at increasing their motivation are nullified if they forget the most important part- action.
Then there are others who are highly motivated but don’t just stay that way but rather utilize their motivational energy to take powerful actions. They are the ones who succeed in fulfilling their needs and desires.
This type of motivation – to become competent in one’s environment – is known as mastery motivation. While mastery motivation is shaped by experience, the desire to become competent and to continue to learn remains an important influence for many individuals.
At its core, Mastery is a simple process accessible to all of us. But before you start down the path, you need to bring two traits to the table: the relentless ability to focus deeply on a subject and a strong desire to learn.
The reason mastery of a specific craft or multiple skills is so important is because once again, it’s never ending. There isn’t a point in your journey where you can completely master something because there’s always another level to reach. With all of the internal motivators especially mastery, it becomes difficult for other people around you to understand why you work so hard. Nonetheless, being motivated this way typically means the person has no real love for what they do because if they did love what they do, the real satisfaction would come from some internal driver like winning, getting better at their craft or working on towards their purpose every single day.
